MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR PERSON

I am very happy to hear that the Department of Computer Science of Hindustan College of Arts & Science is conducting a State level Symposium on 22nd February 2008.

The global technological environment has been witnessing an exponential change in the recent past. The demand for excellence in the performance of every professional is ever increasing. We are going to step into a future world, which would be fully computer networked, IT-driven, globally integrated & vibrant. The need of the hour is to get updated, change with times and to develop a global mindset to remain competitive. With this end in view, our college has been envisioned as a premier Institution of professional education, which nurtures, motivates and inspires excellence and leadership in every field.

In every activity of the college, it is our unwritten duty to follow the principles and unceasing enthusiasm of our illustrious founder Chairman Dr. K.C.G. Verghese. In this connection, I congratulate and convey my best wishes for all the staff and students of the college for their enthusiasm and ceaseless efforts in organizing this State level Symposium in a remarkable manner.

With Warm regards,

Mrs. ELIZABETH VERGHESE

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Our much hyped IT industry of BPO, Call center, Maintenance, Documentation, low-end Sustenance, Customer support form the vast bulk of the computer business. There is very little innovation in technology .How many software products have come out of India ? What new technology have we created ? The Industry here has essentially created assembly line workers out of intelligent minds. There is no long-term technical career path and brilliant technical minds are clobbered into stagnation.

How long is this primarily services model going to work ? Costs and Salaries in India are increasing and services/outsourcing are increasingly going to move onto other cheaper shores like China or Czech republic etc. Unless we move up the Technology value chain, unless we innovate, unless we get world class products onto the marketplace I do not think the IT boom is going to sustain.

Innovation in technology is what our students should strive for from college days.I wish to express my happiness in the efforts taken by the Department of Computer Science in bringing out the COSCIAN magazine.

I wish the staff and students all the best for the inter collegiate technical meet and in all their endeavours

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

I am happy that the department is bringing out a souvenir “COSIAN '08” in connection with the

Inter-Collegiate Technical Meet.

In keeping with the founder- Chairman Dr. K.C.G. Verghese's vision - “To make every man a successes and no one a failure”, the department has contributed in no small measure to THE Higher Secondary school students of Mambakkam, installing computers and teaching computer applications as part of the extension program to usher in social transformation.

The majority of Graduates and Post Graduates from this department find their destination in IT companies opting for software jobs. However they should remember that a sound knowledge in computer applications can make them leaders in their own right, who can contribute to building a better India.

India looks up to you, students to contribute to its development where everyone has equal access to education, health and employment.

While congratulating the faculty & students of the dept of computer science, I take this opportunity to wish you all a very bright future – a future that will light up the lives of many around you.

God Bless you.
